In western Astrology, the Signs and the movement of the planets along the ecliptic is called the Zodiac. In Hindu astrology, the Zodiac is called Kalapurusha which means the Time Man or Time Personified. Sometimes he is depicted doing a fierce backbend where his feet are touching his head and his body is in a circular form. In this system, the body parts describe and illuminate their Sign. In the case of Venus, the two Signs he rules are Libra and Taurus.
Libra is the Root Trine or Moolatrikona. This is where the energy of Venus begins within the Zodiac or in the Kalapursha/Time Man. Since the energy begins here, Libra is the node of Venus so to speak. This root is in the hip/kidney area of Kala Purusha. One of the names of Venus in Sanskrit is Virya, which means the concentrated vitality and also semen. Virya gives robustness, strength and vitality to a person and in Eastern Medicine, the kidneys are where the Virya reside. The kidneys fall within the pelvic area ruled by Libra. Libra rules the internal sexual organs whereas Scorpio rules the external sexual organs that have no bone or muscle to protect them. So in addition to reading a planet in a Sign due to the Signs’ natural characteristics, a planet can also be examined from its root trine or moolatrikona because its root trine is a planet’s natural first house. Count how many houses Venus resides from Libra and this will give you a lot of insight into how Venus behaves which I will give examples of below.
In addition, a planet can be examined by how many houses counted from its placement to its feminine Sign. The masculine or Moolatrikona sign initiates the energy and the feminine sign receives the energy. Or put another way, the house placement from Libra is an aspect of Venus it wants to express and the house placement of Taurus is how Venus goes about fulfilling this desire.
Venus is the ruler of the natural 2nd and 7th houses, Taurus and Libra. The 2nd house is worth and the 7th house is desire. The ultimate desire being for “the other” or for a romantic partner. Thus, Venus rules desire and the choices we make to obtain our desires. Venus also rules weighing what is more worthwhile in order to obtain what is desired. Libra, the moolatrikona sign of Venus, is represented by the Scales. When Venus is afflicted in a chart, the person makes poor decisions that take them down a path they do not want to go, and where the amount they must give up is not worth what they would receive.
There is more than one name given for Venus in the classical texts. Shukra is the most common and it means “bright white”. Another name for Venus is kama which means desire. Venus is also “Kritajna” or “knowledgeable in conduct”. Thus Venus rules manners and politeness. Manners are necessary to navigate the world of others and have one’s desires fulfilled. “Dinavegya” means “offering to the miserable” and is another name for Venus. Whatever is offered to the miserable is to make them more comfortable, thus Venus rules all comforts, nursing and therapy. Venus also rules upayes or remedies for afflictions in the chart.
Keep all that Venus represents in mind while evaluating its effects in the Signs. The Signs in which Venus is deposited, in addition to its position in regards to the Moolatikona will color and control all the effects of Venus within the horoscope.
Since Libra, as the Root Trine of Venus or Venus’ root within the Zodiac or Kalapurush, it is the natural first house of Libra so we will begin there.
Venus in Libra
Libra is the natural first house of Libra. The 1st house is self-esteem so a Venus in Libra person will have a lot of confidence in dealing with others, especially romantic partners, unless Venus is afflicted due to other factors such as Lajjitadi avasthas. Venus in Libra will initiate its Venusian energy (partnership, relation, making choices and comforting, nurturing) through their body language and personal charisma. The native is polite, charming and well-mannered, gives good advice and has a soothing, comforting demeanor.
Taurus, Venus’ feminine sign, is 8 houses away from Libra. The 8th house has to do with major changes so the affections of a Venus in Libra person may change unexpectedly. As an example, Ted Hughes, the great English poet, had Venus in Libra and he was known for his philandering and moving from one woman to the other. He was also very confident in dealing with his love interests. The person can also pursue their love interests through mysterious, hidden and taboo channels. They will often become caught up in secret trysts. The resources and wealth of the partner serve to nurture and comfort this native. Venus in Libra will want to be with someone where they can benefit from their resources whether it be wealth, knowledge, possessions, landed property, etc. A man with Venus in Libra will often get a wife or girlfriend who has a less than stellar relationship with her father (the Sun is debilitated in Libra) but very good luck with servants, tenants, and/or subservient workers (Saturn exalted in Libra).
Venus in Scorpio
From Libra, Venus’ moolatrikona, Scorpio is the 2nd house. The native with this placement initiates relationships, decisions and comfort-producing activities through the agent of their wealth. They will usually like to take care of their partner financially. This person likes to feel stable within their own self-worth and financial situation and uses this to choose their partners and romantic interests. The 2nd house is our possessions, so Venus in Scorpio can be possessive with their partners. When they are trying to decide if something is worthwhile, the Venus in Scorpio person will calculate how it will add to their value. They are attracted to partners will beautiful faces. Taurus is the 7th house from Scorpio so these people receive Venusian energy from partners that are highly sexual (7th house). When the partner wants to nurture and comfort the Venus in Scorpio person, they do it through sex.
The consequences of the decisions made by the Venus in Scorpio natives will often lead them into relationships and/or dealing with business partners. The consequences of their choices will also have a wide ranging effect on the people in their lives. A man with Venus in Scorpio will have a wife or girlfriend that was abused by her mother either emotionally or physically or had a mother that was not present. The woman with Venus in Scorpio will have romances that are full of heavy emotionality and some paranoia. Scorpio are the external sexual organs that are not covered with any bone or muscle, organs that are extremely vulnerable, so Venus in Scorpio feels more vulnerable than other signs within relationships. Scorpio is ruled by Mars which gives passion to the native. The 2nd house is food and drink, so Scorpio Venus usually has aesthetic tastes when it comes to gastronomy and they enjoy involving their partner with eating and drinking well.
Mars is neutral to Venus so he is not helping or hindering him due to this sign placement based on natural relationships.
Venus in Sagittarius
Sagittarius is the 3rd house from Libra. Venus in Sagittarius will initiate relationships out of a curiosity, games and desire, even minor competition. They will be playful and love to go on adventures with their partner and enjoy hobbies together. When they make decisions and weigh the worth of something, they look to how much excitement it will bring them. The 3rd house is all about communication so these natives enjoy picking partners that they will be able to effectively communicate with. The 3rd house is a creative house
They are often on the receiving end of love interests that enjoy argument and sparing. Venus in Sagittarius is not the most auspicious place for Venus because the 6th house is the house of divorce. Many times, these natives will attract partners that turn out to be their enemies and do not have their best interests at heart. The consequences of their decisions often wind them up in debt. But they can benefit a lot from their decisions through the agency of their health and will often pick partners that are health conscious.
Sagittarius is the butt of Kalapurusha. The buttocks is the strongest muscle in the body and is involved in getting up from a sitting position, walking and running, things we do constantly, everyday. Sagittarius will tend to work hard to make a relationship happen and to keep it going.
Jupiter is neutral towards Venus so he is not helping or hindering Venus due to this sign placement based on natural relationships of the planets.
Venus in Capricorn
The native with Venus in Capricorn will have 4th and 5th house characteristics to his/her Venus. This Venus will initiate relationships to find happiness and from deep emotional need. Nurturing others and making worthwhile decisions are an integral ingredient to their happiness. The 4th house is also a hidden house, so when the person is interested in someone romantically, they will show their interest very subtly and the object of their affection must be tuned in to their emotions. The Venus in Capricorn person receives love from others in a grand, romantic fashion (5th house) or they will go about obtaining their desired partner in this way. Venus in Capricorn will be very creative in the way they express their devotion. The consequences of decisions made by Venus in Capricorn will often lead them into some kind of creativity and the opportunity to express their creativity will weigh heavily on the decisions they make. Also, if they have children, these children will always be taken into consideration when making decisions. A man with Venus in Capricorn will have a wife or girlfriend that has ill luck with teachers, mentors, philosophy and/or religion, and money. (Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn)
Capricorn represents the thighs of Kalapurusha or the Time Man. The thighs are thought to do all the work of walking, running, sitting and getting up but it is really the butt that does this work. Therefore, Venus in Capricorn will have certain expectations from their love life and if they are not met, they will feel exhausted and despondent, thinking they worked so hard and their needs were not met.
Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, is a friend to Venus, so this is a very good placement for Venus and he can give his results efficiently if all other factors are equal.
Venus in Aquarius
Venus in Aquarius gives 5th and 4th house effects, exactly like Venus in Capricorn, however the initiative/receptive dynamic is reversed. Venus in Aquarius will initiate relationships very creatively, and in an over-the-top, romantic way. They will want to receive affection and love that speaks to their deep emotional needs and look for partners who can supply this. Venus in Aquarius gets inspiration from children. Taurus is the 4th house from Aquarius will prompt them to develop a beautiful, tasteful home environment and be attracted to someone who excels at homemaking skills. Before making decisions, they weigh how it will improve their creativity. Partners that are attracted to the Venus in Aquarius person will show their affections clandestinely, deeply, emotionally because the 4th house is a hidden house. This native naturally attracts very nurturing partners. There are no planets that are exalted or debilitated in Aquarius, so reading some life experiences of the wife or girlfriend for the man with Venus in Aquarius does not apply.
Aquarius rules the shanks or calves of Kalapurusha. The calves perform duties we hardly notice, like linking the thighs with the feet to make an efficient machine. Aquarius Venus likes to have a romantic life that works effortlessly and efficiently, with a mutual attraction.
Saturn is a friend to Venus so he performs very well in these signs.
Venus in Pisces
This is Venus’ exalted position. Venus will give 6th and 3rd house effects here. Interestingly, such characteristics reveal the naturally cruel nature of Venus. After all, the avatar for Venus is Parasurama, an avatar that is known for his killing. And Venus is the guru of the demons. Venus in Pisces people will initiate relationships from an inimical standpoint, meaning they will love to challenge their partner but also as a way to improve themselves, a very 6th house characteristic. Verbal sparring will be their method of amorous fraternizing. Venus in Pisces people will attract partners who are interested in adventure and are very curious about them. There will be much indecisiveness their romantic life. The enemies of a Venus in Pisces native will have much to do with the choices this native makes. And he or she often finds that the consequences of such choices will lead them into their own hobbies, travel and self-expression. The man with Venus in Pisces will have a wife or girlfriend that has trouble and ill luck with her friends and has issues with communication (Mercury debilitated in Pisces).
Pisces rules the feet of Kalapurusha. The feet are the basis of understanding and Pisces is what takes the knowledge gained and uses it to develop wisdom and perfect understanding. Venus in Pisces wants to feel the Absolute through their love and sex life. They want to go beyond the mundane and into fantasial realms with their romantic partners. In addition to gaining a better understanding of themselves, they will also understand the phenomenal world and how it relates emotional and spiritual well-being. Pisces is the Sign of the vastness of the ocean. Venus, as representative of gaining happiness from worldly things, will have worldly things show them happiness and lead them to transcend the material and into the spiritual.
Venus is Aries
Aries is 7 houses away from Libra, the Moolatrikona sign of Venus and counting from Venus, Taurus is the 2nd Sign from Aries. Venus in Aries people enjoy the give and take of relationships and are almost always in one. They are sensitive and respectful of their partners and highly sensual. They have beautiful manners when dealing with others. Venus in Aries, being the 7th from Libra, will always involve the person with either the public or other people in general, even if they don’t want to be.
The 2nd house Venus connotations will make these natives be receptive to romantic partners with beautiful faces. Comfort and decorum play a major part in their lives. They react strongly to beautiful words and speech and can appreciate good food. They find much value in the beauty of their surroundings and have an eye for fine art. He will also have a wife or girlfriend who has great luck with her bosses, the government, politicians and benefits greatly from her father (the Sun is exalted in Aries).
Aries is ruled by Mars which is neutral to Venus, thus not helping or hindering Venus in the natural relationship.
Mars rules the head which is indicative of ideas and inspiration. Romance and the partner can greatly inspire an Aries’ Venus. They may tend to overly fantasize about the person.
Venus in Taurus
Venus in Taurus gives 8th and 1st house connotations in addition to the natural effects of Taurus. 8th house connotations because Taurus is the 8th Sign from Libra, Venus’ Moolatrikona sign and 1st house connotations because Venus is in Taurus is in its own feminine sign. A Taurus Venus also has a lot of confidence in relating to others and romantic and marriage partnerships in general. Venus in Taurus will initiate romance in a secretive, hidden fashion. They will be attracted to romantic partners who are also secretive and mysterious. They will find much value in the hidden, occult side of life. They often find that they transform themselves through relationships. They are naturally able to benefit from their partner’s resources. Relationships often have abrupt endings. Receiving love and the results of their choices directly affects their self-esteem. A man with Venus in Taurus will have a wife or girlfriend who benefits greatly from her mother and has a wonderful relationship with her mother (the Moon is exalted in Taurus).

Venus in Gemini
This Venus has 9th and 12th house connotations. Venus in Gemini will initiate romance, nurturing and decision-making through a philosophical or religious platform (9th house). They are also very attracted to and desiring of these qualities in potential mates. When they make a choice, it is often after considering how it will benefit their higher learning and wisdom. These natives may also incur expenses while being on the receptive end of a relationship. The consequences of their decisions will cause them to incur expense also and they, more often than not, will have to give something up to receive in their relationships, or give more of their time and effort than receiving from their partner.
Venus in Gemini people may hide their attraction in the beginning. Sometimes their love interests are kept secret or hidden away. There is an inclination towards clandestine affairs but Venus would have to be very afflicted by aspect, conjunction or Shad bala for the illicit nature to manifest.
Gemini is ruled by Mercury which is a friend to Venus so Venus thrives here unless otherwise afflicted. Mercury’s and thus Gemini’s effect on Venus is that of friendship. All romantic relationships benefit from friendship, there is no argument to the contrary.
Gemini rules the shoulders, arms and hands of Kalapurush. Hands and arms help us take what is in our environment. Venus in Gemini is also a very creative lover. Hobbies, creating together is very important to them. Sports and games stimulate their romantic and caring energy.
Venus in Cancer
Cancer is the 10th Sign from Libra and Taurus is the 11th Sign from Cancer. This placement of Venus will initiate romance, nurturing and decision making based upon a desire to further their influence in the world and develop leadership. The 10th house is the house of karma or action and these natives often initiate their romances instead of being on the receiving end of someone’s affections, Cancer also being a cardinal sign where things begin. Venus in Cancer will want someone who has some kind of personal power in their eyes. They will make a career out of helming the relationship and nurturing the partner. They are often on the receiving end of friendship-oriented crushes from others within their social group and they like to involve their partner in social activities. Because the interested party always presents themselves as a friend, the Venus in Cancer person is obliged to initiate the relationship. The 11th house connotations on the receiving end of the Venus in Cancer person will cause this native to be drawn to nurturing friends. The friends will also be consulted on a regular basis in important decisions by this native. Social life is of immense value to this person as well. Often, the results of decisions are financial or material gain. A man with Venus in Cancer will have a wife who has had abusive, lazy or anger-prone siblings and trouble with real-estate (Mars debilitated in Cancer) but at the same time, she will also have a very good husband (the native himself and Jupiter is exalted in Cancer) and that she has very good fortune when it comes to the realm of higher learning, philosophy, religion and teachers. She is also generally happy and philosophical if Venus is not afflicted.
The Moon is an enemy of Venus so Venus in Cancer runs into trouble with their relationships partly because they may push the partner to be more social than they want to be, the Moon being a social planet. The Moon is also a planet of deep emotional needs and the ego so when Venus is here the person has a tendency to make the relationship all about them. In Vedic mythology, the Moon had 27 wives and still needed extramarital affairs so Cancer Venus will have a tendency for a roving eye. Cancer Venus will become disillusioned with worldly pleasures because they don’t satisfy their emotional needs.
Cancer is the chest of Kalapurush. The chest contains the heart, the seat of emotions. Cancer Venus loves to express their deepest emotions with their partner.
Venus in Leo
Venus in Leo natives initiate relationships and decisions based upon what they have to gain from it. Venus in Leo often find that their partners have a lot to bring to the table either in wealth, resources, beauty or knowledge. The Venus in Leo person is inherently attracted to these types of people, people who stand out in some way. These natives will utilize friendship and social interaction as their main force when beginning and sustaining relationships. The inherent value of the relationship will be based upon the friendly feelings between the two people and the ability of the couple to social climb and be recognized in social circles. Venus in Leo natives will find that they are often showered with love and devotion that they very much enjoy unless Venus is afflicted. This is because Taurus is 10 Signs away from Leo and they are on the receiving end of romance in a 10th house fashion. Their partners will make a “career” out of the relationship and nurturing the relationship.
However, the Sun is an enemy to Venus and these people have trouble in relationships because the Sun separates us from things and it also looks for perfection. Venus in Leo will tend to scrutinize the relationship often and find the many flaws. The Sun is royalty in the planetary kingdom and Venus is about compromise, so Leo Venus will have a difficult time compromising principles which will lead to problems within the romantic relationship or marriage. Leo Venus will become disillusioned with worldly pleasures because they look for perfection but it never materializes.
Leo rules the abdomen of Kalapurush. The abdomen is where many vital organs are and rules are vitality. It is the powerhouse where food is turned into energy. Venus occupying this area will motivate the person to seek out partners like food, to need them like food, and these partners will give them energy. This is not really beneficial as Leo Venus will need others quite intensely but also be very critical of them.
Venus in Virgo
Venus is Virgo has 12th and 9th house connotations. Virgo is the debilitation sign of Venus but Mercury is a natural friend to Venus, thus Venus in Virgo is said to be in a sleeping state rather than in the house of an enemy. Venus in Virgo natives have trouble seeing the true value and worth of things thus prompting them to make decisions which will make them give up more than they receive. They are often unaware of why they made a certain choice or why they are attracted to someone. Sometimes they feel a sense of obligation to the people they get romantically involved with, it can feel karmic. When they initiate a decision, they must almost always give up something before they can obtain what they desire. In addition to this, the idea of self-negation drives them in their choice of mate. This is why Venus is debilitated in this sign. Venus has to do with worth and if you are coming from a place of loss or thinking of devaluing yourself (12th house) in order to have a relationship, then you are going against the very nature of Venus as a karaka. Venus in Virgo natives are often the object of desire for philosophical, religious types and also their mentors and teachers. The consequences of their decisions will affect their higher knowledge, their philosophy of life, and their spirituality. A man with Venus in Virgo will have a wife or girlfriend who benefits greatly from her friends and who has many skills. She will also be very articulate. (Mercury is exalted in Virgo).
As stated above, Mercury is a friend to Venus even though Venus is debilitated in Virgo. So Venus is sleeping, but still can give good results and the people Virgo Venus gets involved with usually become their friends first or they have a very friendly rapport.
Virgo is the lower back of Kalapurush. The lower back is the most vulnerable place on the human body for injury and sore backs are the most frequent complaint. The lower back works the hardest, bending the human in half so they can pick things up and then lifting the entire torso back up to a standing position. Venus in Virgos do back-bending work in their relationships to keep them running smoothly. As stated above but for different reasons, Venus in Virgo gives of themselves quite a lot especially in the realm of taking care of their partner’s needs.
