Today, October 23rd, the transiting Moon conjoins the Apogee of its orbit, aka Black Moon Lilith.

The Moon’s Nodes possess a lot of the symbolism given to Black Moon Lilith in Western Astrology. Rahu, the North Node, specifically rules witchcraft and the taboo whereas Ketu, the South Node, hides and represses the emotions, desires and feelings a person does not want revealed to others. Both Rahu and Ketu have the power to cause ‘shame’ to planets through certain associations.

Uranus is given the distinction of rebellion through mental breakthroughs due to individual and original thinking. These are meant to evolve society in an extroverted fashion.

What I would attribute to Black Moon Lilith, in addition to some other qualities that are not mentioned in the popular Western astrological literature, are the ability to see the big picture and the unique exploration of connection consciousness. Or put another way, how humans connect to the world around them and that includes people, animals, nature and the supernatural.

The Moon is all about connection to the natural world as she is the only planet to orbit the Earth. She wants to connect as she is a completely receptive planet. The Moon’s Nodes and the Apogee (Black Moon Lilith) and Perigee (Priapus), because they manifest from the Moon’s orbit, are all about connection or lack thereof, and the pathologies that can arise from having shame or frustration around connection.

The Apogee is the farthest from Earth in the elliptical orbit of the Moon, representing the understanding of how all the pieces fit together or the ‘big picture’. The connection of everything and how phenomena is woven together is Tantra. Tantra literally means ‘woven together’ or ‘web’. It is a web of consciousness or collective consciousness. On the web, we can feel/experience/intuit what is happening at a physical distance and even manipulate it with our own thoughts and focused intent.

The conjunction of the transiting Moon to Black Moon Lilith causes extraordinary insight into how all the pieces fit together, i.e. seeing the big picture. It also creates a defiant, rebellious state of mind or action that goes against the social order, but does so in order to evolve that social order on an internal level.

The Apogee aka Black Moon Lilith causes rebellion and defiance based on what is part of the individual already but unacceptable by family, the social order or presiding religion of a culture. Black Moon Lilith attempts to make these aspects part of the big picture and incorporate them into the web of society and this is an exploration of consciousness. What is discovered in this exploration is then attempted to be incorporated into the familial and social web.

Some notable people who have made a name for exploring consciousness and at the time, were considered scandalous:

Sigmund Freud had Jupiter opposing Black Moon Lilith nearly exact and Mercury, the planet of investigation, a near exact trine. Jupiter was his Atmakaraka (self-indicator) and wherever the AK is ‘glancing’ is massively important in what that person influences in their lifetime.

Anais Nin’s natal Moon was conjunct natal Black Moon Lilith in tropical Capricorn.

Carl Jung’s Atmakaraka (Saturn) was planetary aspecting (10th house aspect), which is a full aspect in Vedic Astrology, Black Moon Lilith within 3 degrees.
