The Solar Return (Varshaphal/Tajika)

The beauty of the Solar Return is that one horoscope can examine a small percentage of a person’s life.  One can time an event to the day rather than major period/sub-period as they do in Parasara astrology. To properly read a Tajika Solar Return chart, it is necessary to do some calculations if you don’t have the software to do it for you. I have included how to calculate the various strengths, aspects, planetary periods (dasas) in the Appendix.

Every time a person’s Sun returns to its natal Tropical position in the Zodiac, the Solar Return chart is calculated. This is when a new year starts for the person. In India, they use the birth place. Always calculate for the birth place and not the place where a person is currently living.

In Hindu astrological texts, not much attention is paid to Solar Return charts. The reason the Solar Return is so popular in the West is because Western Astrology has its roots in ancient Greek and Persian astrology where at some point they began to diverge a bit. Tajika is the system of Persian Astrology.

“Tajika” astrology originated in Tajikstan and is the home of the Tajiks. They were part of the Persian, Babylonian and Chaldean Empires, so it is a very ancient country. The Indians and Persians exchanged their astrology and learned from each other. Neelakantha, which means “blue-throated one”, wrote the most comprehensive book on Tajika astrology, Tajika Neelakanthi. This was the same system as the Greek astrologers used, but thanks to India’s ability to preserve things, they have preserved a form of Western Astrology. In the Bible, Chaldeans are always astrologers.

The Tajiks used Solar Returns as their primary method of timing. The 1^st year of life is your birth chart. The birth chart sets the limit, so to speak, and gives us the seeds of our karma. If a person has a problematic 7^th house in their natal chart, then when a solar return comes along where you have a great 7^th house, it doesn’t indicate the negativity of the birth chart will be overridden because the birth chart sets the limits, the highs and lows. If the 7^th house is strong and identity factors for the year are there, then the person will most likely get into a relationship in that year.
